The Temple of Fertility is located 28 kilometers from the city of Puno. According to historical data, in the 1940s, pottery, stones, metals, and some bone artifacts were discovered; it was also revealed that the excavation was under construction in preparation for the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.

Then, thirty years later, Dr. Alberto Bueno Mendoza and his team conducted a second excavation, finding remains of channels, foundations of colonial buildings, and about 75 lithic sculptures of various sizes and shapes, although they did not specify what these sculptures actually were.

Therefore, we can say that the origin of these sculptures is uncertain; however, other specialists mention that such figures did not exist in the area, as there are no records. It is also presumed that the lithic sculptures found in the place were of a ceremonial nature and were intended for political and religious rituals.

As I have indicated, the origin remains unknown, but it is said that it was built by the initiative of a local resident to attract tourists, and over time, the place gained importance and became highly visited, perhaps more by women.

Additionally, it is known that everything originated from a myth and is now widely accepted by many people who desire to have children, making it one of the major attractions in the highlands.

To become a mother, the ritual involves coca leaves and maize chicha, where the woman, already seated on the phallus, must pour the chicha. If the liquid goes to the center, she may have children, but if it spills to the sides, she would not have the chance to become a mother.

Itinerary Chucuito Puno Fertility Temple – Half Day

DAY 1: Chucuito Puno Fertility Temple – Half Day

Pickup and transfer from your hotel to Chucuito, a place visited by dancers and romantic couples. Due to its location, it offers a beautiful view of Lake Titicaca.

The first stop in Chucuito is the Temple of Fertility. It is believed that the Inca Uyo was a temple dedicated to fertility, where nature was thanked for the miracle of human reproduction and Pachamama, Mother Earth, was honored.

The Inka Uyo is located in the Royal Treasure City, where some people come for various reasons. Then, we will visit the Church of Chucuito, whose side entrance shows the beauty of its construction with columns and arches. Some researchers consider it one of the best examples of colonial Renaissance architecture in the region. We will also see the Solar Clock in the center of the main square, an element of great importance.

A detail that distinguishes this town is the Huamanga Stone Clock, rectangular in shape, with a central needle that marks the hours as the sun advances. Finally, we will go to a fish farm.

Afterwards, we will return to the city of Puno and transfer you back to your hotel.
