Itinerary Choquequirao + Machu Picchu 6 Days / 5 Nights

DAY 1: CUSCO -CACHORA – COCA MASANA – CAPULIYOC- ROSALINA BEACH

We leave from Cusco early in the morning by private transport. Approx. at 5:30 we will arrive after 4 hours in Cachora (2,900m), a typical Andean town where we meet the rest of our trekking team. After a well deserved breakfast we start a two-hour trek to Capuliyoc (2,915m). On the way we get our first views of the Apurimac Valley stretching below and of the snow-capped peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora (5,482m). Afterwards we descend through the eastern slopes of the Andes to reach Coca Masana (2,330m). The temperature becomes higher and the flora and fauna begin to change. Finally we arrive at Playa Rosalina (Rosalina Beach) at 1,550m, where we camp beside the raging Apurimac River.

DAY 2: ROSALINA BEACH – SANTA ROSA - MARAMPATA

Again we get up very early to start, after the breakfast, our walk to reach Maranpata or  Choquequirao after middday. We will reach the archaeological site and we get to know it step by step, the great ability and intelligence which had the people who constructed this vestige which makes us seeing again the glorious time of Inca empire.
Admiring the beauty and with our heads full of ideas, we observe dauntless the condors flying, which around 3 p.m. appear in area of Choquequirao when they fly to higher zones.
Later we take a route to Raqaypata where we camp and after dinner we pass the night.

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO ALL DAY

This day we will dedicate ourselves exclusively to enjoy all the magic of history and splendor of Choquequirao, with a guided visit and time to know whole the site with its 8 sectors, like barns, houses temples and also we will observe the three levels of the excavated ruins of this late Inca-town, like the ruin in progress of excavation and finally unexplored areas that can tell us about this last refuge of the oppressed inca empire terraces. Again, like in the morning this afternoon we have the opportunity to enjoy the majestic flight of condors which with big luck will pass very close to you. In the afternoon we will return to our campsite to have our lunch and then rest and enjoy the quietness of Choquequirao.

DAY 4: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISKA – COCAMASANA

In the morning after having breakfast, we will get ready to come back by the same pathway that we had walked the previous days to get Choquequirao; from this fourth day we will walk back to Capuliyoc the beginning of the trail, thus we will leave the place to walk downhill until reaching the Playa Rosalina, where we will take a little break, we will then to walk uphill to get to Chiquiska where we will have lunch, in the afternoon we will keep hiking for about 2 hours to get to the Cocamasana, which is the fourth campsite, from this camp we will have amazing vistas of the Apurimac canyon. In the evening we will have tea time, subsequently dinner. All meals included.

DAY 5: COCAMASANA – CAPULIYOC – OLLANTAYTAMBO -AGUAS CALIENTES MACHUPICCHU

We will wake up very early in the morning to leave the last campsite, that way not to be hit by the sun heat, after a couple of hours hiking uphill, we will arrive at the viewpoint of Capuliyoc from where we will have the last views of the side of majestic Choquequirao and the great canyon of Apurimac. At this place, we will have our last lunch with our Terra Quechua Peru crew, and we will say goodbye to our muleteers, cooks, and horses. Next, we will drive for about 4 hours to the Ollantaytambo train station, from where we will take the train at 7:05 pm to Machu Picchu Pueblo, the train journey is for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Once in Machu Picchu Pueblo, we will get to our hotel. All meals included, except dinner.

DAY 6: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO

Today a great breakfast at the hotel makes us ready for a full morning exploration of Machu Picchu on a private tour with your Trek Leader. We’ll take the bus back to Machu Picchu early in the morning for an amazing tour until 12:00 pm (Machu Picchu permits will issue for the first group which is from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm).

If you have booked a permit for Huayna Picchu mountain, you’ll climb the mountain first; however, spaces are subject to availability. In the unlikely event that Wayna Picchu permits are not available for your departure date, you will climb Machu Picchu Mountain instead.

After a great time at the Incan emperor’s palace, we’ll take the bus down to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes town), where we’ll have lunch (not included). In the afternoon we’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo train station and/or Poroy train station, as of this place continue driving to your hotel in Cusco. Only breakfast included.
